Official introduction

Hello,

This year I once again proudly present to you the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre’s annual report in its all-digital form.

As you will see upon reading this report, our researchers have proven to be exceptional in many fields and have made major discoveries for the advancement of health. Among these are the development of a portable probe that allows surgeons to identify cancer cells in real time during an operation; a new medication to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis currently in the clinical trial phase and the use of deep learning methods to identify and segment tumours in medical images.

We also set up a data integration and analysis centre, which will allow our researchers, doctors, professionals and managers to carry out in-depth analyses of data collected at the CHUM and generated by our research teams, thanks to artificial intelligence tools, in order to answer research questions and improve the health care and services provided to our patients.

This has been a pivotal year for the CHUM, whose three founding hospitals are now together on a single ultramodern campus, along with its research centre. In this new chapter in the life of our university hospital, the research centre is more than ever determined to fully play its role of generating scientific knowledge and incorporating discoveries into medical practice to improve the health of the citizens of Quebec and, beyond provincial boundaries, to strengthen its position as a world-class academic research centre.
